Capable of sporty riding in the curves on paved roads and solid handling on unpaved roads, the V-STROM SX can be considered sport adventure tourer. What makes the V-STROM SX sport adventure tourer so popular is it’s distinct adventure-inspired looks, comfortable ergonomics and fully-realized utility that fit customer needs in each displacement class.
The design concept behind the V-STROM SX was “Toughness in a Slender Shell.” Toughness comes from its rugged, adventure-inspired looks, confidence-inspiring chassis. The slender shell refers to a slim exterior shape owing to the compact engine design that appears to be wrapped in a “protector-like” shell. Its nimble handling and light weight make it simple to maneuver through the city. Its sporty performance brings excitement and thrills across twisty roads making it a lightweight versatile crossover.
Beak Design
A beak design inspired by the legendary DR-Z racer and DR-BIG off-road models, which was brought back and remade specifically for the V-STROM.
LED Headlights
Stylish LED headlights are octagonal shaped with unique high/low beam set up arranging LED lights in three separate rows in a housing made as thin as possible for a sleek look, strong road presence and a lower overall weight.
LED Tail Lights
The LED tail lights are bright, keep the machine highly visible at night.
Knuckle covers
Knuckle covers keep wind, rain and small rocks off the rider’s hands. This keeps them drier on long rides for added comfort and less fatigue.
Windscreen
Compact yet highly functional windscreen shields well, reducing fatigue on long rides.
Separate seat
A separate seat not only lends a sporty look, but also provides plenty of comfort for both rider and passenger. It has comfortable cushioning but also the ability for the rider to shift their weight to either side during sporty riding.
Dual-exit muffler
The short, all-black dual-exit muffler is specifically designed for the V-STROM SX with rugged-looking muffler cap specially tuned for an exhaust note satisfying to the ears.
Engine under cowling
Engine under-cowling offers a tough, rugged look and adds balance to the bike’s exterior lines.
Graphics
Sport-inspired graphics hint at the V-STROM SX’s sporty side, while a textured pattern on the side panels improves both the look and feel of the bike.
Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP)
SEP engines feature weight saving and friction-reducing technology to allow both low fuel consumption and excellent power characteristics. In the V-STROM SX, the SEP engine offers brisk acceleration but uses little fuel in the process.
Suzuki Oil Cooling System (SOCS)
The world’s first oil-cooled motorcycle engine was developed by Suzuki and has been updated ever since, becoming the key to producing smaller, lighter engines as the use of an oil cooling system allows a smaller, more compact design. The end result of years of development is the Suzuki Oil Cooling System (SOCS). Not only does this system offer advantages in size, but it also excels in durability and combustion efficiency. Oil cooling allows the engine to quickly warm up to the optimum temperature, which is an added benefit on cold days, and then to maintain that temperature for optimum fuel combustion, resulting in excellent fuel economy. The oil cooler itself consists of few parts, making it easy to maintain.
Engine Performance
The 249cm3, 4-stroke 1-cylinder, 4-valve, oil-cooled SOHC engine featured in the V-STROM SX feels strong and linear, offering excellent torque at low rpm and a smooth run up, making it easy to use for beginners and veteran riders alike, as well as suiting it to a wide variety of situations, from riding in town to high-speed cruising. The Suzuki Oil Cooling System (SOCS) warms the engine up quickly and keeps it at the optimum temperature exceptionally well for ideal temperature management. It also contributes to the engine’s overall light weight and the V-STROM SX’s brisk, nimble feel.
MotoGP technology
Analytic technology gained through MotoGP was used to develop the valves, shim type roller rocker arms, retainers and piston to reduce their weight. These combined result in a lighter engine with less friction loss. This reduces the overall weight of the V-STROM SX and gives it a quick, well-handling ride character, along with improving fuel economy.
Piston
Printed surface treatment of the piston skirt area has reduced friction loss in the piston itself. This has contributed to increased output and better fuel efficiency. The cylinder liners’ unique finish offers excellent heat transfer effectiveness, reducing oil consumption and oil loss.
Electronic fuel injection
Sensors monitor and record data like air pressure and air temperature to deliver and inject the ideal amount of fuel to match riding conditions. This allows a smooth, direct and linear throttle response in any kind of climate, environment or riding conditions.
This is thanks to the engine’s compact layout, allowing the side panels below the seat to be as narrow as possible, providing plenty of room and an overall slim, lightweight feel to the machine. Although it feels slim while riding, the V-STROM SX is tough and rugged with a protector-like look and fee.
Front and rear suspension
At the front, telescopic front forks provide a generous 120 mm of suspension stroke to absorb bumps and keep the ride smooth. The swingarm type rear suspension features a 7-step adjustable preload that can be customized to suit the needs of each ride, whether it be riding alone, with a passenger, or carrying heavy luggage, giving the V-STROM SX a stable, comfortable ride every time.
Wheels / Tyres
The V-STROM SX features lightweight 19-inch (48.26 cm) front and 17-inch (43.18 cm) rear 10-spoke cast aluminum wheels. The 19-inch (48.26 cm) front wheel with semi-block style pattern offers stability and excellent control over various kinds of road surfaces. MRF MOGRIP METEOR front and rear bias tires feature a semi-block style pattern with unique tread design that channels water well and connected center blocks for excellent stability on straight roads. The rubber compound works well on both paved roads at higher speeds, and at lower speeds on unpaved roads for solid all-around usability.
Dual-channel Antilock Brake System
The dual-channel Antilock Brake System (ABS) monitors the front and rear wheel speeds individually and matches stopping power to available traction to provide greater confidence and control. This adds convenience for new riders, returning riders and experienced riders alike, offering more peace of mind on slippery or unpaved roads.
*ABS is not designed to shorten the braking distance. ABS cannot prevent wheel skidding caused by braking while cornering. Please drive carefully and do not overly rely on ABS.
Footrest rubber
The aluminum pegs are covered with vibration-absorbing rubber to reduce the amount of vibration transmitted to the feet, which in turn lessens fatigue, especially on long rides and on unpaved roads.
Rear carrier / Grab bar
A large aluminum rear carrier with a 6 kg carrying capacity also functions as a grab bar to give the passenger a solid place to hold on while riding, making tandem riding more enjoyable. It also features four convenient hooks to secure luggage.
A full lineup of convenient features include a large, easy to read display, USB outlet, and the Suzuki Easy Start System, making every ride a breeze, while a wide selection of genuine accessories allows for customization.
Suzuki Easy Start System
The Suzuki Easy Start System allows the engine to be started with no need to hold down the switch, requiring only a single, brief push (with the clutch pulled in).
USB outlet
A USB outlet on the left side of the instrument cluster can be used to charge a device. It glows blue making it easy to use in low light situations.
